Fury could be the darkhorse in the 2000 Guineas odds
Published:Opposition to Frankel seems to be becoming smaller on an almost daily basis for the 2000 Guineas, but unbeaten Fury could well lay down some sort of challenge at 16/1.
Kieren Fallon rode the horse to both of its victories last season as a juvenile and was particularly impressed by his turn of foot to land the £500,000 Tattersalls Millions 2YO Trophy on his final start in October.
There was much to like about Fury’s performance that day aside from his apparent likeness for Newmarket and Fallon was quick to indicate that he believed the horse had a bright future in front of him.
This means that a fellow jockey could pick up a decent spare ride in the 2000 Guineas, with Fallon unable to climb into the saddle because of a ban.
Maureen Haggas, the wife of Fury’s trainer Willie, feels the horse is doing everything right in preparation for a return to Newmarket and one of the only jobs remaining now is to find a suitable replacement for Fallon.
She said: “Fury’s on course to run, everything is going well with him.
“We haven’t confirmed a jockey as yet but we are hoping to clear something up within the next day or two.”
It is clear that Fury would have to step up markedly on the bare bones of his form so far to win the 2000 Guineas on his first run of the season, but given the fact that Frankel is such a short-priced favourite, it is worth looking for some each-way value.
Frankel is 1/2 in the 2000 Guineas odds and it is widely assumed that he only needs to turn up to secure victory because his proven form is so much better than that of his rivals.
