Ex-Liverpool boss linked with return to management in Spain

Rafael Benitez has been linked with the Atletico Madrid job as the fall-out between Diego Forlan and Quique Sanchez Flores continues to escalate.

Sanchez Flores is a man under pressure as Atletico lie seventh in the Primera Liga table having won just five of their 19 games since the turn of the year and Benitez is seen as the perfect replacement should the Atletico board decide to get rid of Sanchez Flores.

Forlan has been linked with a move back to the Premier League and a potential return to Manchester United as differences between both he and Sanchez Flores look irreconcilable.

Benitez has been out of work since being sacked as Inter Milan manager in December and while his name has been linked with the Chelsea job, he doesn’t feature in the next Chelsea manager betting.

Carlo Ancelotti looks certain to be joining Benitez in the job centre come the end of the season after an unsuccessful season in which he couldn’t provide Abramovich with the Champions League title

Jose Mourinho currently heads the next Chelsea manager betting with odds of 2/1 and Guus Hiddink follows the Real Madrid manager at 3/1.

According to reports from the weekend Abramovich offered Hiddink the sporting director role at Chelsea as Frank Arnesen will leave at the end of the season to take up a role with Hamburg.

Having turned down offers to work in club football ever since 2000, Hiddink looks set to snub Chelsea once again although reports suggest he has thrown Marco van Basten’s name into the ring.

Van Basten is 7/1 to become the next Chelsea manager following reports in the press this weekend and if Abramovich can’t land his number one favourite – Hiddink – then Van Basten could be the man that replaces Ancelotti.

A £10 stake on Van Basten replacing Ancelotti as Chelsea manager would return £80. New customers can sign up here to receive a free football bet worth up to £30.
