AV referendum in no-win situation?
Published:The odds of ‘No’ securing a majority in the AV referendum are tumbling according to Ladbrokes.
Punters have quickly latched onto opinion poll figures backing the ‘No’ outcome all the way down to 2/7 (from 4/6) overnight.
‘Yes’ is now 5/2 (from 11/10). The odds also now favour a ‘Yes’ percentage of 45-50 at 7/4 with 9/4 the price it secures only 40-45 % of the vote.
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “‘All the momentum is now with ‘No’ and we wouldn’t be surprised if the odds shorten again soon. We’re clutching at straws in the hope ‘Yes’ can spring a surprise and save us.”
The bookies’ hopes of avoiding a payout are also diminishing rapidly as a successful ‘No’ result will reward punters with a six-figure sum.
