Abramovich 1/1 to win Champions League with Chelsea
Winning the Champions League is the one big thing that has eluded Roman Abramovich since he bought Chelsea ahead of the 2003 Premier League season and odds are now available as to whether he will ever achieve this feat with the London club.
It is 1/1 in the Champions League odds that Abramovich wins the tournament as Chelsea owner and this could prove a big price.
Before the group stages of this year’s competition Chelsea’s odds were 6/1 to win the Champions League, so in theory as long as Abramovich does not sell the club in the next few years this could prove good value.
The fact that Abramovich has spent approximately £100m in the last season to bring the likes of Fernando Torres and David Luiz to Stamford Bridge also makes it unlikely that he is planning to sell up any time soon.
One potential sticking point is that there is still a slim possibility that Chelsea will not qualify for the Champions League next season.
They are effectively in a battle with Manchester City and Tottenham for the final two places in the top four of the Premier League and whichever team does finish fourth will have to win through a qualifying round to reach the group stages of the Champions League.
One criticism that cannot be labelled at Abramovich is that he has not been prepared to invest in the squad in order to win the Champions League.
This is now Abramovich’s eighth season as Chelsea owner and in that time the club has managed three Premier League titles, three FA Cups and two Carling Cups.
However, after spending a little more than £500m in transfers in this period at an average of around £64m a season, Abramovich may be fair to expect that a Champions League title should also be in the club’s trophy cabinet.
A £30 stake on Chelsea winning the Champions League at any time with Abramovich as owner would return £300. New customers can sign up here for a free £30 bet.
