Real Madrid consider return to Everton for summer signing
Published:The last time Real Madrid visited Everton they left with Thomas Gravesen, but they appear to have recovered from the nightmare of this deal and are considering returning to Goodison Park to strengthen their squad again.
Gravesen’s spell at the Bernebeu is widely remembered for the wrong reasons as he failed to impress alongside Zinedine Zidane and Guti in the heart of the midfield and he was eventually sold by Fabio Capello to Celtic.
However, this has not put current manager Jose Mourinho raiding Everton’s squad again with the aim of signing Marouane Fellaini.
After a troubled start to his life on Merseyside as he struggled to adapt to the speed of the Premier League and constantly got booked, the Belgian has gradually improved.
The Belgian looked assured at the start of this season, but has now had to endure the agony of his campaign being cut short by an ankle ligament injury.
Fellaini does not seem the typical Real Madrid signing, which make the speculation slightly surprising, bit he is the sort of midfielder Mourinho tends to like.
Mourinho has always had a tough tackling and robust midfielder to protect his defence, which also allows his attacking players to show their flair without having to overly worry about carrying out their defensive duties.
Sami Khedira currently occupies this role alongside the ball-playing Xabi Alonso, but he has been injury prone this season and has been seen to be invisible by some Real Madrid fans.
With Lassana Diarra and Fernando Gago set to exit the Bernebeu over the summer, there will be space in the squad for a new recruit in the midfield.
Meanwhile, the news will not be great for Everton boss David Moyes as he is also likely to have to fight off bidders for other important squad members including Jack Rodwell, Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman.
