Manchester United leading race for Oxlade-Chamberlain

The signature of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be one of the most sought after at the end of the season and it is Manchester United who appear to be currently leading the race for the Southampton teenager.

A number of Premier League teams have been tracking the 17-year-old since he broke into the Saints’ first team this season, with the Red Devils and Arsenal reportedly leading the race ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool.

And according to the Daily Mirror, Manchester United have taken a massive step into pole position after Sir Alex Ferguson highlighted the winger among his chief targets.

It is rumoured that Manchester United would offer £10m in order to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain, which would consist of £5m up front and then the other half based on appearances.

With question marks about the strength of the current Manchester United squad, Ferguson is set to be given a sizeable kitty in the summer to complete a mini overhaul, with five new recruits potentially arriving.

A new goalkeeper to replace the retiring Edwin Van der Sar is almost guaranteed, while the disappointing performances of Jonny Evans is likely to lead to another centre-back being bought.

Furthermore, some added creativity is required in the middle of the midfield, particularly as Paul Scholes is getting no younger at the age of 36.

Despite their noted lack of depth, Manchester United are still in with a fine chance of winning three trophies this season.

It is 4/7 in the Premier League betting that they win the top flight and they are currently five points clear of nearest pursuers Arsenal.

Manchester United’s betting odds are 1/1 to win the FA Cup, with the competition now at the semi-final stage, while it is 6/1 that they win the Champions League.

A £20 stake on Manchester United winning the Champions League would return £120. New customers can sign up here to take advantage of free bets totalling up to £60.
