Injury scares leave Spurs friendless in the betting for silverware
Published:Harry Redknapp will be sweating on the outcome of the doctors call today after William Gallas and Gareth Bale suffered setbacks in training.
Bale was pulled out of training as a precaution after taking a knock to his thigh but Gallas’ injury could be a lot more serious with some predicting he could be out for up to a month.
That would leave Tottenham Hotspur light at the back once again this season, and as we enter the business end of the season, Redknapp will be hoping Gallas can play a strong role as the season comes to an end.
Spurs are still in the Premier League winners betting but at 150/1, a title charge would be highly unlikely.
However after knocking out Seria A leaders AC Milan in the Champions League, Spurs have seen their Champions League odds cut to 10/1 to win the competition and that makes them the fifth favourite.
The draw for the quarter-finals of the Champions League is made on Friday and we’re sure to see plenty of movement in the betting.
But should the fears surrounding Gallas be confirmed, Spurs chances of finishing strongly will be severely dented with Gallas joining defenders Ledley King, Vedran Corluka and Jonathan Woodgate on the sidelines.
A battle should be expected in Spurs’ next game with rivals West Ham on Saturday, but Spurs’ home record in the league is incredible this season – only Wigan have won there – and Redknapp’s side are 4/7 to take home all three points.
With an International break next week, Spurs will not return to the pitch for another fortnight after the West Ham game which should allow Redknapp time to nurture some of his injured stars back to full fitness.
