Dante’s Storm leads the threats to Baby Run in Foxhunters

Published:

Baby Run is a short-priced Cheltenham betting favourite at 3/1 to win the Christie’s Foxhunter Chase, but there are other contenders that should be considered at bigger prices.

It is hard to challenge the credentials of Baby Run, particularly as he won the Cheltenham race last year and has secured victory in both of his starts this season to date.

However, with 16-year-old Willie Twiston-Davies set to take the ride and potential question marks over whether he truly stays up the Cheltenham hill under scrutiny, it may be worth looking for a lively challenger elsewhere in the market.

Of the other challengers, Dante’s Storm, On The Fringe and Sericina seem the most interesting, particularly as they all seem open to improvement.

Dante’s Storm, like Baby Run, will want to be prominent from the off and will certainly be among those vying to secure the early advantage to control the pace.

He was very comfortable in his recent victory at Folkestone and his form at point-to-point level is of a strong standard.

However, Dante’s Storm does have a tendency to jump right-handed, which would be a negative at Cheltenham.

Dante’s Storm is 12/1 in the Foxhunter Chase betting, which is the same price at Sericina.

Sericina was let down by his jumping when falling behind Baby Run 12 months ago, but seemed much improved on his sole start this season.

If his jumping holds up, the fact he is patiently ridden could be another asset, particularly if Baby Run is taken on for the lead early on and ends up setting off too quickly.

On The Fringe has only run five times, but the manner of his last three victories has earned him an 8/1 quote for the Foxhunter Chase.

The fact he is just a six-year-old and relatively inexperienced may be seen as disadvantages, but his win in a hunter chase at Leopardstown last month leave him with a major chance.

A £25 stake on Dante’s Storm winning the Christie’s Foxhunter Chase would return £300. New customers can sign up here for a free £25 bet.
