Clijsters and Zvonareva on course for a semi-final battle in Miami

Published:

Two of the world’s top three stars are on course for an Australian Open repeat in the semi-finals of the Sony Ericsson Open as the Miami heat hots up.

Kim Clijsters beat Vera Zvonareva comfortably in the Melbourne semi-final and punters have to respect the Belgian, who at 2/1 to win the tournament, is a huge price considering Zvonareva will arguably be her toughest game should the two meet.

The two players must overcome their quarter-final opponents first though and Zvonareva will take to the court against Agnieszka Radwanska before Clijsters takes on Victoria Azarenka.

Vera Zvonareva vs Agnieszka Radwanska

Zvonareva hasn’t been in her usual scintillating form since losing to Clijsters in the Australian Open, and Radwanska will be confident of an upset having beaten the likes of Francesca Schiavone, Azarenka and Marion Bartoli in recent weeks.

Having beaten Radwanska in their only previous meeting, Zvonareva is the 4/7 favourite to do so again but Radwanska is yet to drop a set in this tournament and is a tempting price at 5/4.

The only previous meeting was won comfortably by Zvonareva but having dropped two sets already this week, this tie is sure to go the distance and backing both to win 2-1 would return a tidy profit, but we’re siding with Radwanska to edge it at 10/3.

Kim Clijsters vs Victoria Azarenka

Clijsters could be the pick of the days betting despite her short odds of 2/5 to beat Azarenka considering she has never lost to the world number nine on a hard court.

Azarenka’s only victory over Clijsters came on the grass courts of Eastbourne last year and the 7/4 for Azarenka to win seems a little short.

Five of the six matches these two have played this week have gone to three sets, and punters can back Clijsters at 13/5 to win the match 2-1.

A £20 stake on Radwanksa beating Zvonareva 2-1 would return £86.67. New customers can sign up here to get £60 in free bets.
