Bet on Rose to tame Tiger and Johnson on PGA Tour
Published:Justin Rose recovered from a final round collapse last year to win his next tournament and 33/1 seems a decent price that he does the same again on the PGA Tour this season at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Rose has seemingly made a habit of failing to see out the job in his professional career, getting himself into good positions after three rounds before succumbing to the pressure over the closing 18 holes.
This arguably happened at last week’s Transitions Championship, when he carded a 74 in his final round to throw away victory after being in pole position after 54 holes.
However, when Rose faded late on at the Travelers Championship last year, he immediately bounced back to secure a second career PGA Tour victory at the AT&T National.
The biggest challenges for Rose, apart from inside himself, are likely to come from an improving Tiger Woods and an in-form Dustin Johnson.
Woods is a six-time winner at Bay Hill in just 14 starts so clearly is a fan of the course.
Meanwhile, although he has not troubled the top of the leaderboard in his four starts this season, he did show some of his skills of old in the final round of his latest start in the WGC-Cadillac Championship.
Woods carded a joint-lowest final round of 66 at Doral, which also resulted in a first top-ten of the season.
The former world number one is 8/1 to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational, while Johnson may also be great value at 16/1.
With birdies hard to come by at Bay Hill, the fact that Johnson ranks first in the PGA Tour statistics in terms of birdie average may be extra significant.
Furthermore, he registered the fewest bogeys in the field in the Transitions Championship, while he has already finished second and third on the PGA Tour this season without winning.
