Barcelona lead five teams still in hunt for perfect treble

The perfect treble of the Champions League, domestic league and main domestic cup has been completed in each of the last two seasons and five teams are still in the hunt to achieve the magical feat this season.

Only six teams have ever managed to accomplish the treble and Barcelona have every chance of becoming the first team to do it on two occasions this season.

Barcelona’s betting odds are 5/2 to complete the treble of the Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey and doing so would emulate their accomplishments of 2009.

Pep Guardiola’s team are currently five points clear at the top of the La Liga, are in the Copa del Rey final and are 11/10 favourites in the Champions League betting after drawing Shakhtar Donetsk in the quarter finals.

Spanish rivals Real Madrid are among the other clubs with treble aspirations at 50/1, but this seems unlikely as it would mean getting the better of Barcelona in all three competitions.

They have to make up the five-point gap in La Liga, beat Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final and win the Champions League for the first time since 2003.

Manchester United won the treble in 1999 and despite not being at their best for much of the season are 16/1 in the football betting to win three trophies again.

Inter are 40/1 to emulate their achievements of last season, but still have to overhaul AC Milan in the Serie A title race.

However, they did perhaps benefit from the best draw in the Champions League quarter finals by being picked to face Schalke, who arguably on paper are the worst team remaining in the competition.

Shakhtar are the final team who could win the treble at 50/1, but the fact the Ukrainians face Barcelona in the Champions League means that they may have to settle for challenging for their domestic double.

A £20 stake on Manchester United winning the treble would return £320. New customers can sign up here to take advantage of free bets totalling up to £60.
