Atletico Madrid star property hunting in the Manchester area
Published:It seems Manchester United have found a replacement for Edwin Van der Sar already after Spanish newspaper Sportyou claimed Manchester United and Atletico Madrid have settled on a €25m deal for goalkeeper David de Gea.
The 20-year-old is reportedly looking for a house in Manchester after the two clubs came to an agreement regarding a fee, and while there has been no official announcement from either club, it seems this is one of those transfer rumours that will bear fruit.
With Van der Sar leaving at the end of the season, Manchester United head coach Rene Maulensteen confirmed that the club would be looking for a replacement earlier in the season.
De Gea is highly-rated in Spain and despite Iker Casillas turning just 30 in May, is considered to be the long-term replacement for the Spain and Real Madrid shot stopper.
He may have signed two world-class goalkeepers in his time, but Sir Alex Ferguson’s dealings with goalkeepers in the transfer market has never been the strongest aspect of his management style and Manchester United fans will be glad to see De Gea on his way to Old Trafford.
De Gea will join Anders Lindergaard, Ben Amos and Tomasz Kuszczak in the goalkeeping ranks at Manchester United, but Ferguson will hope De Gea can establish his place in the side in the same way Peter Schmeichel and Van der Sar did.
While de Gea and Manchester United agree terms, Van der Sar, like Schmeichel, will want to leave on a high and Manchester United are 16/1 to win the treble in his final season between the posts.
Manchester United’s Premier League odds of 4/7 suggest they have the league title wrapped up while the 1/1 for Ferguson’s side to win the FA Cup also suggests a strong challenge from the Red Devils.
