Alex return to help Chelsea beat Manchester City

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti will have Alex back available for selection when the club look to keep alive their hopes of securing the Premier League title in their virtually must-win encounter with Manchester City.

Alex has been on the sidelines since November after undergoing surgery on a knee injury and this was an instrumental factor in Chelsea’s dreadful run of form over the Christmas period.

The January signing of David Luiz has eased Chelsea’s defensive crisis, helping them to five victories in their last seven league games.

However, one clean sheet in five games may be a cause for concern and Ancelotti may opt to revert to his former partnership of Terry and Alex at the heart of his defence and then possibly move Luiz to full-back or even into midfield.

Chelsea’s betting odds are 4/6 to beat Manchester City and a victory would ensure they remain at least nine points off top spot with a game in hand.

Meanwhile, the news could get even better for Ancelotti as the only other injured player in his ranks, Yossi Benayoun, is also fighting to be fit for Manchester City’s trip to Stamford Bridge.

Benayoun has not played since suffering a serious Achilles problem in September and is expected to be back training with the first team by the end of the week.

Ancelotti said: “This is a fantastic moment for us, to have all the players fit. I want to maintain a good motivation for everyone. We need everyone for the run-in.”

Chelsea are currently 7/1 in the Premier League betting and the fact they have a full squad to rotate is certainly a positive with the season reaching its climax.
