25-1 Ireland stun England to net punters 100k

IRELAND HAVE defied in-running odds of 25-1 to stun England in the Cricket World Cup and cost Ladbrokes £100,000.

The bookies pulled down the market after Ireland lost their captain presuming the game was all over but as the Irish fightback resumed, in-running punters piled on at odds of up to 25-1 to win £100,000.

Ireland are now 250/1 (from 500/1) to win the World Cup and 100/1 to win Group B. England drift out to 10/1 for the tournament as a result and 8/1 for Group B. It’s also odds-on (2/5) that Ireland register another victory in this tournament against any other side.

Kevin O’Brien was the hero on the day and in securing the game for Ireland he also broke the world record for the fastest century at a World Cup. It’s 33/1 that any other player breaks this record again this tournament and O’Brien is also introduced to the 2011 RTE Sports Personality of the Year award betting as the 7/2 favourite.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “Maybe some St Patrick’s Day luck came early to those who backed Ireland. We thought the game was over and we’re now paying for our mistake.”
