13:30 Cheltenham – Bet on Walsh to bag another winner

Published:

Ruby Walsh has already ridden three winners at the Cheltenham Festival and he seems well placed to add to his tally in the opening race of the third day when climbing on board Robinson Collonges in the Jewson Novices’ Chase.

Racing against his elders on his latest start on his first visit to Cheltenham, Robinson Collonges was well in contention when approaching the final bend, but a bad mistake three fences from home ended any chance of victory.

His jumping is a bit suspect and could do with being improved, but it is worth the risk to back him at 5/1 in the Cheltenham betting to win the Jewson given the strength of his form previously in the season.

The race that should particularly be remembered is the Rising Stars Novices’ Chase at Wincanton in November when he looked to have the race sewn up a long way out before falling late on.

Wishfull Thinking went on to profit from this mistake and is now the 11/4 favourite in the Jewson Novices’ Chase betting.

However, what is also worth remembering is that not only did Robinson Collonges seemingly have the race won, but he was also conceding 6lb to his rival and will re-oppose at Cheltenham off level weights.

Noble Prince is likely to be the main challenger to Robinson Collonges and looks a decent each-way candidate at 11/2.

The horse appears to have been improving all season and has chased home Arkle third Realt Dubh on his last two starts.

Meanwhile, he should also appreciate the better ground and certainly has the speed to feature, given the fact he was a Group Three horse on the flat.

But there remain doubts as to whether he will enjoy the undulations of Cheltenham, while he tends to find little off the bridle when under pressure.

A £20 stake on Robinson Collonges winning the Jewson Novices’ Chase would return £100. New customers can sign up here to take advantage of free bets totalling up to £60.
