West Ham vs Liverpool – Disastrous loss awaits hosts

Published:

Struggling West Ham have the run in from hell and need five wins in 11 to reach 40 points, so have no choice but to target three points at home to Liverpool on Sunday…

Match odds

Liverpool have only won three away Premier League games this season but two of those triumphs have come in Kenny Dalglish’s first three back in charge and his one trip to a side in the relegation zone since returning to the dugout last month ended in a 3-0 win at Wolves.

The Reds therefore look great value at 11/10 to extend their eight-match unbeaten run in all competitions with a third successive victory in east London against troubled West Ham.

Avram Grant’s team have shown signs of improvement since strengthening in the January transfer window and summer signing Thomas Hitzlsperger also made an impact on his long-awaited debut against Burnley in the FA Cup, scoring the opener in a 5-1 win.

They’ve followed four cup wins with losses this season though and their home league record is the division’s direst, while they have collected just four points out of a possible 36 against top-half clubs, so it’s hard to see the hosts claiming three points at 5/2 or even one at 23/10.

Total goals

Liverpool have scored three in each of their last four meetings with the Irons, two of which were at the Boleyn Ground, so 7/2 looks a big price on them netting three or more again, especially as West Ham have conceded that many four times in front of their own fans.

The visitors’ Europa League hero Dirk Kuyt was also on the scoresheet against West Ham at Anfield and is therefore an interesting candidate to break the deadlock at 6/1, with Carlton Cole perhaps the hosts’ best hope at 7/1.

Liverpool are 14/1 to win 3-0 again, so a £25 stake would provide a profit of £350. New customers can sign up here for a free £25 bet.
