Villarreal and Valencia both set for difficult away days

It’s all about the battle for Champions League qualification on Sunday night in La Liga as current third and fourth-placed sides Valencia and Villarreal look to cement their positions in difficult away games…

Racing Santander v Villarreal

A three-match winless run has seen Villarreal surrender third place to local rivals Valencia and having only won once on their travels since the start of December, don’t count on them even temporarily regaining the position away to Racing at 6/4.

The hosts haven’t been toppled at El Sardinero since September and head into this fixture on the back of their first successive Liga wins in over a year, momentum which makes them an attractive proposition to triumph again at 9/5.

Villarreal’s loss of form has coincided with the goals drying up for one-time division top scorer Nilmar, who is without a goal in six away games. The Yellow Submarine are no strangers to 1-0 defeats and it is 7/1 that they suffer another.

Athletic Bilbao v Valencia

Espanyol regained fifth with a victory on Saturday but Athletic Bilbao appear Valencia and Villarreal’s chief challengers for a top-four finish and realistically need three points here to make such a push plausible.

A fantastic record of nine wins in 12 as hosts suggest the Basque club have a strong chance, however Valencia are unbeaten in ten Liga outings and have won four on the spin against Athletic, who enter this clash on the back of two losses on the road.

Unai Emery’s team are yet to triumph on a trip to a top-six club though so the draw looks the standout bet at 9/4, with over 2.5 goals also appetising at evens given that it’s been a feature of all Athletic’s home ties against Spain’s elite.
