Sunderland vs Chelsea – Betting market underestimates Black Cats

Published:

Chelsea head north hoping to end Sunderland’s unbeaten year, but after the Black Cats upset the odds at Stamford Bridge, Carlo Ancelotti’s side have plenty of work to do.

Sunderland were 12/1 to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge back in November, but they are a lot shorter in the betting after completing the shock of the season and Steve Bruce will be confident his side can maintain their unbeaten start to 2011.

Match Odds

Sunderland are 9/2 to beat Chelsea on Tuesday night and are unbeaten at home against top four opposition this season.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side are unsurprisingly the 4/6 favourites having scored 14 goals in their last four games, but the Black Cats have kept a league high 11 clean sheets this season and Chelsea’s forward line are unlikely to receive much freedom.

It was exactly 10 seasons ago when Sunderland last managed the double, but the Mackems would be more than happy with a draw which is priced at 5/2.

Total Goals

It’s not often Chelsea draw games 0-0 (just once this season with Aston Villa), but the two best defences in the Premier League are meeting on Tuesday and a 0-0 looks possible and is priced at 10/1.

Under 2.5 goals is available at 8/11 and Sunderland are 7/2 to keep a clean sheet while Chelsea are 1/1 to stop the Sunderland attack scoring.

Sunderland’s defence will have to cope with Nicolas Anelka who has six goals in his last five matches against Sunderland and is 4/1 to get the first goal.

Should Anelka manage to continue his incredible record against Sunderland, the 1-0 Chelsea victory is priced at 6/1 and Chelsea are 6/4 to win to nil.

But Chelsea’s away form has been awful this season and a win at a big price for Sunderland is a tempting bet.

A £25 stake on the game ending 0-0 would return £275. New customers can sign up here for a free bet worth £25.
