Reina 12/1 to replace Van der Sar after refusing to rule out move

If you though Fernando Torres was receiving some stick from the Liverpool faithful over his move to Chelsea, imagine how those Reds fans would feel if Pepe Reina completed a move to Manchester United.

It’s safe to say Liverpool fans would fume about losing their star goalkeeper to their fiercest rivals, and Reina has stoked the fires by refusing to rule out a move to the Premier League leaders.

Edwin Van der Sar has confirmed his intentions to retire at the end of the season and Sir Alex Ferguson may see the Spanish number two as the ideal replacement and Reina is 12/1 to start in goal for Manchester United in their opening league game.

Spanish radio station Onda Cero put the question to Reina and the Spaniard said: “Yes, well Van der Sar will hang up his gloves in the summer so of course they are looking.”

“I can’t do anything. I can’t say anything logically as I have a contract with Liverpool.”

“I won’t lie, I want to play in the Champions League and challenge for titles,” added Reina.

Liverpool are 4/1 to finish in the top four after a run of four straight wins, including the 1-0 victory away to Premier League champions Chelsea.

But Liverpool are still six points adrift of Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur who are level on 44 points in fourth and fifth and have played a game more.

Kenny Dalglish would be lauded by every Liverpool fan across the planet if he was to steer Liverpool into the top four, but realistically Dalglish will be targeting a top six finish.

Manchester United are 8/13 to win the league and are shoe-ins for a Champions League spot as Reina contemplates his future.
