Quarterback battle will decide Super Bowl winner
Published:All the neutrals will be cheering for Green Bay Packers’ Aaron Rodgers in the clash of the Super Bowl quarterbacks, but it’s Ben Roethlisberger who looks to have the upper hand heading into the game.
The Pittsburgh Steelers man may be a controversial character, but it’s impossible to knock his record and he is a big reason why the Steelers are the 10/13 favourites heading into Sunday night’s showpiece.
Roethlisberger owns two Super Bowl rings, with the first coming in 2005, making him the youngest ever starting quarterback to win the title at 23-years-old.
However, Rodgers was magnificent against Philadelphia Eagles and Atlanta Falcons as he tore them apart in the first two play-off games and the Packers’ chances of winning the Super Bowl at 11/10 really rest on the 27-year-old’s shoulders.
One major concern for Rodgers will be the fact that the Steelers have the meanest defence of the regular season. They gave the opposing quarterback’s a terrible time of things, leading all the other teams with 48 sacks.
However, Rodgers has shown he can deal with the pressure and, after replacing Packers legend Brett Favre as starting quarterback in 2008, became the first player to throw over 4,000 yards in his first two starting seasons.
Despite that, Roethlisberger has repeatedly shown he has the ability to cope with the big occasion and, while Rodgers may be in better form, it’s hard to look beyond the Steelers with Big Ben steering the ship.
