Mainz vs Bayern – Hosts can complete unexpected double

| 18.02.2011

Bayern Munich’s continued troubles to keep fragile Dutchman Arjen Robben fit could make Mainz overpriced at 4/1 to secure an unlikely double over the German giants this season.

Match Odds

Mainz have already upset Munich at the Allianz Arena this season when running out 2-1 winners in September and although it will not be as big a shock if they triumphed on their own patch, many will still expect Munich to secure victory.

This is largely because they have the stronger squad on paper and have showed some decent form of late with three wins in their last four Bundesliga games.

They were largely impressive in the latest of these when thumping Hoffenheim 4-0 and key to this success was the impact made in the wide areas by Robben and Franck Ribery.

Injuries to both players have meant Bayern have had difficulty getting them onto the field together this season and this could prove a problem again as Robben recently broke down in a training session, which has left him a doubt.

Anything other than victory will surely end Bayern’s title chances for good and they are 8/13 to secure maximum points.

Over/Under 2.5 goals

All ten of the previous meetings between Bayern and Mainz have witnessed a minimum of three goals scored and the same should be expected again.

It is 4/6 in the Bundesliga betting that over 2.5 goals are scored, which has also been the case in ten of Bayern’s most recent 11 fixtures this season.

Mario Gomez has easily proved Bayern’s most prolific striker in the campaign with 17 goals in 20 games and is 7/2 to break the deadlock.

With Adam Szalai out, the responsibility will fall on the shoulders of Andre Schurrle to lead the Mainz line and he is 7/1 to strike first.

A £25 stake on Mainz beating Bayern Munich 2-1 would return £400. New customers can sign up here for a free £25 bet.
