Kaymer in pole position to take number one spot from Westwood

Martin Kaymer is searching for a consecutive win at the Commercialbank Qatar Masters and should the German do so, Lee Westwood’s reign as the world number one will come to an end.

It’s an interesting subplot on the European Tour so early in the season and understandably, Martin Kaymer is the 6/1 favourite to emerge victorious on Sunday.

It wouldn’t be the first time Kaymer has registered back-to-back victories, the German hit a hot streak after his maiden major title at the US PGA Championship winning his next two tournaments to make it three wins in a row.

New customers to Ladbrokes looking to place a golf bet would do well to follow Kaymer this week and sign up here for a free £25 bet.

Westwood is second favourite in the Qatar Masters betting at 8/1, and the Englishman will not give up his world number one status without a fight.

Westwood was disappointed with his poor showing in Abu Dhabi a fortnight ago, but a week on the driving range coupled with the desire to remain number one will see Westwood challenge.

Last week’s Volvo Golf Champions winner Paul Casey is 12/1 to win this week and is paired with Kaymer and Miguel Angel Jimenez (25/1) in an intriguing pairing.

The three-ball betting makes Kaymer the favourite to shoot the lowest first round score at 11/8, but Casey (7/4) is flying after his first win in over two years and Jimenez’s (9/4) second-place finish last week sees the Spaniard in top form.

Richard Finch is a massive price at 125/1 to win this week after shooting a course-record 63 in the final round in Bahrain last week, as is Soren Kjeldsen at 100/1 after also shooting 63 in the final round.

A £25 stake on Alvaro Quiros winning the Qatar Masters would return £375. New customers can sign up here for a free bet worth £25.
