Injury-hit England on the drift in the Cricket World Cup betting

Eoin Morgan is out of England’s World Cup squad after suffering a fractured finger in the final one-day international with Australia.

Morgan was a vital figure in the Ireland team that made the Super 8 stage of the 2007 World Cup, and the Irishman-cum-Englishman was expected to play a major role in this year’s World Cup.

However, England captain Andrew Strauss has now had the news confirmed that Morgan will miss out and Ravi Bopara has been named as his replacement in the 15-man squad.

This news could put further pressure on Jonathan Trott and he heads the cricket betting to be England’s top World Cup runscorer at 3/1.

Morgan made just 106 runs in the recent one-day series with Australia which ended in disaster for England, and because of the humiliating 6-1 defeat England have seen their World Cup odds eased out to 5/1 from 4/1.

Australia’s demolition job on England has seen them overtake India at the top of the International Cricket Council’s ODI world rankings and at 5/1 to win the World Cup, Australia offer plenty of value.

Despite the disappointing series with Australia, Strauss is still optimistic that his side can perform strongly in the World Cup which starts on February 19th, citing the different conditions in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh as his reason for optimism.

India currently head the Cricket World Cup betting market at 3/1 after opening at 7/2, and as joint hosts the passionate home support certainly makes them huge contenders.

Only Sri Lanka have managed to host the World Cup and go on to win it in its 36-year history and the Sri Lankan’s, who will host 12 of the 49 games, are available at 9/2 to win the World Cup.

A £25 stake on England winning the World Cup would return £150. New customers can sign up here for a free bet worth £25.
