Forest and Leicester boost title chances with new signings

Nottingham Forest seemed to have the greatest success on the final day of the January transfer window among the Championship’s leading promotion contenders and this could make them a good bet to win the title.

Forest are currently fifth in the table, seven points behind leaders QPR, but the fact that they have two games in hand gives them a strong chance of closing this gap.

The captures of Paul Konchesky and Robbie Findley will also only improve their title chances and at 8/1 in the Championship betting odds, they look overpriced.

Findley moves on a free transfer from MLS outfit Real Salt Lake and will provide more competition in attack with the likes of Nathan Tyson, Dexter Blackstock and Dele Adebola.

Konchesky brings a wealth of Premier League experience following his loan switch from Liverpool and will replace Ryan Bertrand, who recently returned to Chelsea as his loan deal expired.

Leicester have gradually begun to improve up the Championship standings under Sven-Goran Eriksson and the manager’s international connections have helped ensure the signing of goalkeeper Ricardo.

The former Portuguese stopper was recently released by Real Betis and will tighten up the Foxes’ defence until the end of the season.

Leicester’s betting odds to win the Championship are 25/1, but they can be expected to be in contention until the end of the season, particularly after also signing Yakubu, Kyle Naughton and Ben Mee on loan.

Cardiff are 9/2 to win the Championship and will be happy that they managed to maintain the services of Jay Bothroyd.

However, they did lose one striker in the transfer window as Andy Keogh was recalled from his loan deal by Wolves to sign for Bristol City, where it is hoped he will benefit from more first-team opportunities.

A £25 stake on Norwich winning the Championship would return £225. New customers can sign up here for a free £25 bet.
