Bookies not bowled over by Gough becoming an MP
Published:DARREN GOUGH is 33/1 with Ladbrokes to become an MP before 2020.
Following his invitation from David Cameron to stand in Barnsley, the firm have responded and make the Conservatives the joint 20/1 second favourites with the Lib Dems for the by-election. Labour are 1/33 for the seat with the BNP and UKIP both 100/1 chances.
In the coalition head-to-head, the Lib Dems are slight favourites at 4/6 to beat the Conservatives (11/10).
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “Despite Gough’s cult status we aren’t swayed and don’t think the Conservatives stand much of a chance even with him on side. It’d be an achievement for them to beat their coalition partners in what the odds suggest is a nailed on safe seat for Labour.”
In other political news the bookies also quote the English Defence League as 50/1 chances to win a Westminster by-election before the next general election.
