Lack of wins leaving Birmingham open to relegation

Birmingham’s difficulty in securing victories in the Premier League this season is making them serious contenders to be relegated into the Championship.

Only goal difference is currently keeping Birmingham out of the bottom three and they are now 3/1 in the Premier League betting to be relegated in May.

Part of the reason for their precarious position in the standings is the fact that they have only won four games out of their opening 23 fixtures this season and unless this number is rapidly improved, history suggests they are doomed for the drop.

In the 18 Premier League seasons to date, only once as a team managed to survive by winning fewer than eight games, which was West Brom in the 2004/05 campaign.

However, West Brom were helped by the fact that they drew 16 games to finish 17th, while the season did go against the norm as 34 points proved enough to stay up.

Birmingham’s woes are even more remarkable given that they have only lost two games at home all season, which is a record that is only bettered Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham.

Unfortunately for Birmingham, their next Premier League game is on their travels and they will definitely slip into the relegation places if they fail to secure a result at West Ham.

West Ham’s betting odds are 11/10 to beat Birmingham and they will leapfrog their opposition in the table with a victory.

The Hammers have also beaten Birmingham at Upton Park once already this season when running out 2-1 winners in the first leg of their Carling Cup quarter final.

Birmingham are 5/2 to secure the three points but are without a victory in their last four away meetings with West Ham.

A £25 stake on Birmingham beating West Ham 2-1 would return £250. New customers can sign up here for a free £25 bet.
