Bet on Denmark vs England – Hosts have the upper hand

Published:

England’s dreadful record in their first games of a new calendar year make Denmark’s betting odds on the large side at 11/5 to beat Fabio Capello’s men.

Match Odds

Denmark have triumphed in their last two clashes with England, which were also both friendlies, with the most recent ending 4-1 in their favour in Copenhagen in 2005.

Meanwhile, England have proven slow starters in terms of winning their first game of a new calendar year, securing victory just four times since 1997.

Furthermore, all of these four victories have all come at home.

Other elements in Denmark’s favour are that they have avoided defeat in four of their five games since the World Cup and have a far stronger squad to pick from.

England’s betting odds are 5/4 to beat Denmark, but Capello will have to make do with a weakened team thanks to injuries to players including Rio Ferdinand, Steven Gerrard and Peter Crouch.

First Goalscorer

Although England do not have the greatest track record against Denmark recently, Wayne Rooney will count them among his favourite opposition.

Rooney has scored in both of the latest two defeats and is 5/1 to open the scoring against Denmark in Copenhagen.

Frank Lampard has now been confirmed as England’s skipper, but four of the last six captains have lost their first game in the role.

However, Lampard is 10/1 to strike first, which would go some way to helping England avoid defeat.

Denmark are likely to opt for Nicklas Bendtner in the lone striker role, with Dennis Rommedahl and Christian Eriksen being the leading candidates to provide support from midfield.

Bendtner is 7/1 to break the deadlock, with Rommedahl priced at 12/1.

A £25 stake on the scorecast of Rooney scoring first and England beating Denmark 2-0 would return £750. New customers can sign up here for a free £25 bet.
