Australia vs England – Hosts to sign off ODI series in style
Published:It didn’t long for the shine to be taken off of England’s brilliant 3-1 Ashes triumph in Australia and they now head into Sunday morning’s final one-day international at risk of falling to a humiliating 6-1 series defeat.
Australia have bounced back in impressive fashion from their Ashes embarrassment and already had this seven-ODI series sewn up with two encounters to spare, though any hopes that they may ease off after sealing the victory were quashed in Sydney on Wednesday.
Their superiority has shown in five of the previous six collisions so even though they have decided to rest Michael Clarke and Shane Watson with their upcoming World Cup defence in mind, the 4/5 offered on them achieving win number six appears terrific value.
England are 1/1 to recover some pride and momentum but their crippling injury list refuses to ease up, with Paul Collingwood the latest to be ruled out with a back spasm, which is another reason why Australia have to be fancied to record their third straight win in Perth.
While Australia are without several of their big names, the majority of the side ranked the best in the world in ODIs remain, while the less experienced members like John Hastings won’t be short of motivation as they attempt to prove their worth ahead of the World Cup.
One Englishman who hasn’t suffered as much is Jonathan Trott. He’s been the top run scorer in three of the last four clashes and is 2/1 to once again score over 50. If he manages to hit 108, he will break the world record for most runs in an ODI series between two nations.
