Ancelotti would have to be sacked to leave Chelsea

Carlo Ancelotti remains 3/1 in the Premier League betting to be the next manager to leave his post, despite stating that he would never quit as boss of Chelsea.

The pressure has increased on Ancelotti following Chelsea’s FA Cup fourth round exit to Everton, while their chances of winning the Premier League are all but over.

They are 12 points behind Manchester United and there is no guarantees based on their recent form that they will even finish in the top four this season.

The least owner Roman Abramovich would expect is Champions League’s football for the next campaign and Chelsea’s betting odds are currently 4/11 to finish in the top four.

However, they are fifth in the Premier League standings at present, two points behind fourth-placed Tottenham, and their current form does not suggest that these places are liable to reverse.

Yet regardless of Chelsea’s finishing position, Ancelotti has indicated that he would never resign and would need to be sacked by Abramovich if he was to leave Chelsea.

He said: “I don’t have to consider my position. It is the owner that has to consider my position, not myself.”

And Ancelotti’s position is looking even more precarious given the fact that Luiz Felipe Scolari was sacked two years ago by Abramovich when the club were thought to be underachieving, even though their position was not as bad as the current one.

West Ham’s Avram Grant is the favourite in the Premier League odds to be the next boss to go at 11/8, even though this is a lot bigger than earlier in the campaign, when he was heavily odds-on.

Among the other frontrunners are Birmingham’s Alex McLeish at 6/1 and David Moyes of Everton at 7/1.
