West Ham in pole position but Birmingham have the away goal
West Ham have seen their Carling Cup title odds trimmed into 4/1 from 5/1 after their 2-1 victory over Birmingham on Tuesday night.
Despite holding the weight of the world on his shoulders, Avram Grant was able to steer his side to an all important victory, but the West Ham manager still wanders in a mist of uncertainty as the West Ham board decide on the Israeli’s future.
Last night’s victory was an important one for Grant as Messrs Gold and Sullivan, and mentor to the apprentices, Karen Brady, got one over on their old club.
Birmingham are now 5/1 from 4/1 to win the Carling Cup which would leave West Ham the favourites to progress to the final and meet either Arsenal or Ipswich.
It’s been 31 years since West Ham last lifted any silverware and 30 years since they made an appearance at Wembley, but while the club struggle at the bottom of the Premier League, the Irons fans at least have something to cheer.
And their form suggests the Hammers board should stick with Grant who has seen his side suffer just the one defeat in their last seven games.
Despite their strong run of form West Ham still stay rooted to the foot of the Premier League and are the relegation favourites with odds of 4/6.
However they are just two points away from Fulham in 14th place, and with three wins from their last three home games, Arsenal should be worried when they travel to Upton Park on Saturday.
A depleted Arsenal defence takes on a confident West Ham attack and at 5/1 to beat Arsenal, the Irons offer plenty of value.
With the club on course for a Carling Cup final, and with the form to escape from the relegation zone, the board should reconsider their stance on Grant’s future.
