Toni 8/1 in betting to score opening goal on Juventus debut

Juventus will be hoping that Luca Toni will quickly step into the scoring boots of Fabio Quagliarella if they are to maintain their Serie A title aspirations this season.

Quagliarella’s goals have been important in keeping Juventus within eight points of AC Milan at the head of the standings and they are 9/2 in the Serie A betting to win the title.

The striker had netted nine goals in the opening 18 games but will now miss the remainder of the season after rupturing knee ligaments in the recent defeat at Parma, which is expected to keep him sidelined for six months.

With Vicenzo Iaquinta also out with a thigh problem, Juventus boss Luigi Del Neri has wasted little time in boosting his options in attack in a bid to continue the chase.

Del Neri can also call upon Alessandro Del Piero and Amauri, but the former may struggle to play numerous games in quick succession and the latter can be frustrating and inconsistent.

Toni has plenty of experience of the demands of Serie A and brings no fitness concerns after featuring in all but one of Genoa’s games this season.

The 33-year-old, who has signed an 18-month deal with Juventus, is expected to be handed an immediate debut by playing some part in the Old Lady’s next Serie A fixture away at fellow title hopefuls Napoli.

Juventus’ betting odds are 23/10 to beat Napoli, but they have lost their last three away games against the opposition.

Toni is 8/1 to open the scoring against Napoli, with Del Piero available to be backed at 7/1.

A £10 bet on the scorecast of Toni scoring first but Juventus losing 2-1 could lead to a return of £800. New Ladbrokes customers can sign up here for a free £10 bet.
