Scotland announce the squad that can win the Six Nations
Of all the nations competing in the 2011 Six Nations, Scotland have arguably the best form entering the tournament after a strong Autumn campaign.
They may have taken a pasting from New Zealand in their final Autumn international, but none of the home nations looked like competing with the Kiwi’s in the Autumn and Scotland offer plenty of value at 16/1 to win the Six Nations.
Scotland’s 21-17 victory over reigning world champions South Africa was the pick of the Autumn International results, and Scotland coach Andy Robinson will be hoping to use that result as a platform for the upcoming Six Nations.
Just three uncapped players have been included in the 34-man Six Nations squad and while the leading contenders in the Six Nations betting look to use the tournament to blood new talent for the upcoming Rugby World Cup, Scotland’s experience can upset a few plans.
Scotland play Wales (6/1 to win the Six Nations), Ireland (11/4) and Italy (250/1) at home, and have to travel to Twickenham to face England (15/8) and Paris (9/4) to face France.
Admittedly, Scotland’s record at Twickenham and the Stade de France is poor, but France are more interested in winning the World Cup and their complacency could see Marc Lievremont’s side struggle.
The match with England on March 13th is the game that could define Scotland’s year.
Scotland will have played Wales and Ireland by that point and could be on for a triple crown, which they are priced at 16/1 to win, and the game against England could be a major tie in the race to the title.
Scotland finish with a home match with Italy which they should win comfortably, while England travel to Ireland and France host Wales and should the Six Nations come down to the final day, Scotland are the best bet to win it.
