Robben rates Dortmund as banker Bundesliga bet

Borussia Dortmund may be 1/10 in the Bundesliga betting to win the title, but this is free money according to Bayern Munich midfielder Arjen Robben.

The winter break did little to halt Dortmund’s German dominance as a six-minute second-half salvo ensured they claimed a 3-1 victory away at fellow title rivals Bayer Leverkusen.

This victory coupled with other results going in their favour meant that Dortmund’s lead at the top stretched to 12 points.

Pre-season title favourites Bayern Munich are now 16 points adrift after drawing at Wolfsburg and Robben believes that bookies may as well pay out now in relation to the whereabouts of the Bundesliga title.

The Dutch winger said: “There’s no point talking about first place any more. Obviously, there’s always hope while it’s still theoretically possible, but we’re just too far behind.

“You have to accept and also respect that. It’s simply a superb achievement by Dortmund, you can already congratulate them on winning the title. Dortmund are simply too far ahead.”

However, historical examples from the English Premier League prove that teams that build up a big advantage at the top of the table can still be caught.

In 1996 Newcastle were 12 points clear at one point, but collapsed late in the season to be caught by Manchester United.

Then two years later Manchester United got a taste of their own medicine when they blew an 11-point advantage to an Arsenal side who went on a scintillating run of form over the final three months of the season.

Hannover continue to surprise in the Bundesliga and have moved to the head of the chasing pack, but are still 50/1 to win the Bundesliga.

A £25 stake on Bayern Munich winning the Bundesliga title would return £175. New customers can sign up here for a free £25 bet.
