Redknapp smashing bet to be Gray’s replacement

Jamie Redknapp looks the obvious candidate to be named as the replacement for Andy Gray as a pundit on Sky Sports and may be good value in this betting market at 5/2.

Gray has now been sacked from his position on the grounds of unacceptable behaviour and the search is on to find a permanent successor.

Redknapp stood in for Chelsea’s recent victory at Bolton and has often been seen in the studio for Sky Sports’ bigger weekend matches alongside Gray.

Meanwhile, if public relations are the current chief concern for Sky, then Redknapp also has committed fewer sins in the past than some of his rivals in the hunt for the post.

If Sky are taking past wrongdoings into account, then that could impact their chances of the likes of Graeme Souness and Paul Merson being chosen.

Souness is 6/1 in the football betting to take over from Gray, while Merson is among the outsiders at 33/1.

If Sky are intent on making their show more light-hearted and humorous, the Chris Kamara has to be a big price at 10/1.

His excitement has been widely witnessed in the past and the odd moment of unplanned brilliance which will have viewers rolling on the floor laughing could prove an asset.

Merson displays some of the same qualities as he battles to pronounce the names of many of the world’s foreign stars now plying their trade in the Premier League.

Elsewhere, Sam Allardyce replaced Gray in the commentary box for Chelsea’s win at Bolton and is a 25/1 contender, it is 20/1 that Alan Shearer makes the jump from the BBC, while Andy Townsend is 14/1 to move to transfer to Sky from terrestrial television.

A £25 stake on Ray Wilkins replacing Andy Gray would return £125. New customers can sign up here for a free £25 bet.
