Liverpool to mount assault on Champions League places

Kenny Dalglish has begun the fighting talk by insisting that Liverpool are still targeting a finish in the Champions League places this season.

Liverpool moved into seventh in the Premier League standings after beating Fulham, which is their highest position of the campaign, and Dalglish has revealed that the club will not be resting on their laurels.

Although mounting an assault on the title may be out of the question, Liverpool’s betting odds are 350/1 to win the Premier League, there is still every possibility that they could climb into the top four.

Liverpool are currently nine points adrift of Chelsea, who sit fourth at present, and have now won their last two league games without conceding a goal.

Dalglish said: “I think we are better than that. It is getting a bit more realistic but we are not getting carried away with being seventh – that is not where this football club wants to be.

“We want to be further up than that but to do that we have to win more games.”

With Liverpool out of the FA Cup, they can now enjoy a bit of a rest before returning to Premier League action when they face Stoke.

Liverpool will need to be virtually invincible at Anfield if they want to sneak into the top four and this will begin against Stoke.

Stoke have yet to score at Anfield in the Premier League in their two previous visits, while their home victory over Liverpool earlier in the season represents their only triumph in their last 13 games against the opposition.

Some more goals from Fernando Torres would also help Liverpool climb the table and he is 25/1 in the football betting to finish the Premier League’s top scorer this season.

A £25 stake on Chelsea winning the Premier League would return £175. New customers can sign up here for a free £25 bet.
