Kauto Star heads field of 11 in the King George betting market

Kempton’s Boxing Day King George meeting has been rescheduled for Saturday 15th January, and Kauto Star will face a maximum of 10 rivals.

The British Horseracing Authority has confirmed that the King George will not be reopened for entries which means Kauto Star will remain the 4/5 favourite as he searches for his fifth consecutive King George win.

But one horse that will be certain to challenge the dual Cheltenham Gold Cup winner is Nacarat, and trainer Tom George has declared his stable star is in “A1”condition.

Writing through the medium of Twitter, George revealed: “[Vet] Buffy [Shirley-Bevan] camein to treat some of the horses today, including Nacarat who is A1 for King George! Hoping for very little rain.

Nacarat is currently a 10/1 shot in the King George betting and in three starts around Kempton, has finished second, fourth and first – his fourth place coming in the 2009 King George race.

But rain may be the least of George’s weathers after overnight snow suggested the cold snap may not yet be over.

New Years Day was the first time National Hunt racing had seen any action in a couple of weeks and the snow decimated the National Hunt Christmas period.

Nacarat enjoys good or good to soft ground and snow would be a real hindrance to the horse as he bids to end Kauto Star’s domination of this race.

His two starts this year have seen him finish first at Wetherby at 6/1, and then a fourth place finish behind the 2010 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Imperial Commander last time out at Haydock where he was sent off a 7/1 shot.

Nacarat definitely offers punters an each-way prospect and Ladbrokes are offering 1/4 odds for a top three finish, leaving Nacarat 5/2 to finish in the top three.

A £10 stake on Albertas Run winning the King George would return £260. New customers can sign up here for a free £10 bet.
