Hot favourites crash out of Super Bowl betting at first hurdle

The New York Jets were the toast of bookmakers across the world yesterday when they dumped out the hot favourites for Super Bowl XLV.

The New England Patriots were the short-price 13/8 favourites to win the Super Bowl and the number one seeds in the AFC division, but the Jets, sixth seeds in the AFC, caused the biggest upset of Super Bowl XLV so far.

Entering the game, the Jets were 14/1 to win the Super Bowl but are now as short as 7/2 and face the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship game.

The Steelers are 2/1 to win the Super Bowl after knocking out the Baltimore Ravens and Mike Tomlin’s side are the favourites heading into the Championship game with the Jets.

The Steelers are -3 points in the handicap on Ladbrokes and are 4/5 to beat the Jets with Rex Ryan’s side available at 21/20.

In the NFC division the script was adhered to and the Green Bay Packers victory over the Atlanta Falcons saw them become the 13/8 favourites to win Super Bowl XLV.

The Packers will meet the Chicago Bears in the NFC Championship game following the Bears victory over the outsiders in the Super Bowl XLV betting market, the Seattle Seahawks.

Lovie Smith’s Bears are available at 5/1 to win the Super Bowl but face a tough task getting to the final – they are available at 21/20 to beat the Packers with a +3 handicap and are 8/5 to win in the money line betting.

With the Patriots out of the running, the Super Bowl XLV betting has become a lot tighter and punters can find plenty of value in the betting markets.

The Steelers have the advantage of six Super Bowl wins to their name and look the pick at 2/1 to win Super Bowl XLV.

A £25 double on the Steelers and Bears making the final would return £99. New customers can sign up here for a free £25 bet.
