Forget Federer, day five offers some incredible betting excuses

Feast your eyes on the line-up for day five of the Australian Open, and then get the wallet out as day five of the Australian Open betting is the most competitive yet.

Aside from Roger Federer, 1/33 to beat Xavier Malisse, there is plenty of value to be found in the Australian Open odds and new customers can sign up here and take advantage of a free bet worth £25.

The pick of the day’s matches, as its promotion to the Rod Laver arena confirms, is the tie between Stanislas Wawrinka and Gael Monfils.

Two of tennis’ finest nearly men go head-to-head for the chance to face Andy Roddick or Robin Hasse – Roddick is 1/8 to beat Hasse – and the betting market is tight with Monfils 1/1 to beat Wawrinka and the Swiss 8/11 to win.

On paper Monfils should be favourite, he’s ranked seven places higher than Wawrinka and holds a 2-1 head-to-head record over the Swiss.

But Wawrinka entered the Australian Open on the back of a win in Chennai in the first tournament of 2011, and the Swiss world number 19 is 9/2 to edge Monfils 3-2 in what’s shaping up to become a classic.

Novak Djokovic is 1/6 to beat friend and fellow countryman Viktor Troicki (7/2) in the third round but the two players played out a five-set thriller in the 2010 US Open and Djokovic could be on for another battle.

The world number three will prevail but it’s a case of how many sets will he drop and the value is in backing Djokovic at 12/5 to beat Troicki 3-1.

Thomas Berdych faces a tough and intriguing tie against Richard Gasquet and the Frenchman is as big as 2/1 to beat Berdych.

Berdych won their only meeting last year but has never beaten Gasquet on a hard court and the Frenchman offers plenty of value at 13/2 to win 3-2.

A £25 double on Wawrinka and Gasquet winning would return £129.50. New customers can sign up here for a free £25 bet.
