Darren Bent signing can help stave off relegation for Aston Villa

Aston Villa have had a massive bid for Sunderland striker Darren Bent accepted, according to Sky Sports News.

Aston Villa are still deep in trouble following their draw with Birmingham yesterday and are currently 7/2 to be relegated. They are 17th in the league and only out of the drop zone because of Wigan’s inferior goal-difference.

According to Sky Sports News though, things could be about to get a lot better. Bent has allegedly made a formal transfer request and Villa have had their bid of around £18 million accepted.

The signing would represent a massive coup for Gerard Houllier, whose side have scored just 24 goals in their first 22 Premier League games this season.

Their poor form in front of goal continued against the Blues yesterday. They hit the woodwork three times, with Gabriel Agbonlahor and John Carew both missing good chances.

If the deal goes through, it represents particularly bad news for the likes of Wigan, Wolves and West Ham who currently occupy the relegation places.

Wolves and Wigan are currently 4/5 and 8/11 respectively in the Ladbrokes Premier League relegation betting and, with Villa adding such a potent goal scoring threat to their side, they could certainly be worth backing for the drop.

West Ham have also (allegedly) improved their side with the introduction of Wayne Bridge. However, he had an absolutely abysmal debut against Arsenal and was at fault for all three goals.

A decent left-back probably won’t be enough to save them from relegation and they are currently favourites in the relegation betting at 4/7.

A £25 stake on Fulham to be relegated would return £83. New customers can sign up here for a free £25 bet.
