Bet on Colin Firth and The Social Network to win at Oscars

Colin Firth’s bid for a first Best Actor Oscar was given a huge boost last night thanks to his victory at the Golden Globes.

Firth picked up the best dramatic actor gong in Beverly Hills and looks set to cap a remarkable couple of years by coming away with the Best Actor Oscar next month.

He has now come in to 1/9 in the Oscars betting.

The Golden Globes have proved a valuable pointing post to Oscar glory in recent years, with four of the last five best actor winners going on to take the podium again at the Oscars.

Jeff Bridges won both last year for his performance in Crazy Heat, while Philip Seymour Hoffman, Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker all did the double between 2005 and 2007.

While Firth may have won the Best Actor gong, the night belonged to The Social Network. The Facebook film came away with the awards for best picture, best director, best screenplay and best score.

The Social Network is now in at 1/3 in the Oscars betting to pick up Best Picture, following their triumphant night.

Meanwhile, director David Fincher is huge favourite in the Best Director category at 1/8, with The King’s Speech director Tom Hooper out at 10/1.

Natalie Portman was named best dramatic actress for her role in Black Swan and has come in to 1/6 to win an Oscar for her performance as a disturbed ballerina.

A £25 stake on The King’s Speech winning Bets Picture would return £108. New customers can sign up here for a free £25 bet.
