Bet on Berbatov to keep scoring and win Golden Boot

Five goals in two games from Dimitar Berbatov has not only helped Manchester United in their quest for the Premier League title, but also made him a heavy favourite to win the Golden Boot.

Berbatov’s betting odds have shortened to 4/7 to be the Premier League’s top scorer after his double against Blackpool took his season’s tally in the league to 19.

This leaves him five clear of nearest challenger Carlos Tevez, who is 4/1 to bridge the gap to claim the Golden Boot.

The one concern that punters may have about backing Berbatov in this market is his tendency to go on lengthy dry spells without scoring, which would allow some of the top-flight’s other leading strikers to catch him slightly.

Berbatov failed to find the target in the whole of October after getting caught up in a seven-game Premier League rut without a goal, while he only recently ended another three-fixture dry spell.

However, this should not be a chief concern as he will always be presented with a hatful of chances by his Manchester United teammates, particularly with Nani showing glimpses of rediscovering his best form and Antonio Valencia close to returning from a serious injury.

Furthermore, when Berbatov does regain his scoring touch, he does so emphatically, as he ended his lengthy drought earlier in the season by scoring five against Blackburn, while the recent lean period come to a conclusion with a hat-trick against Birmingham.

Berbatov has scored 15 of his league goals at home this season and with the likes of Blackpool, Fulham and Bolton still to travel to Old Trafford, he will fancy his chances of increasing his tally further.

His form has also been a chief reason for Manchester United being priced at 8/13 in the Premier League odds to win the title this season.
