Australia vs England – Unbeaten Aussies targeting whitewash
Published:Australia have been cut into 12/1 to win the one-day international series with England 7-0, and on the basis of current form, that seems a strong bet.
Andy Flower is yet to discover his best line-up as he searches to create a side that can win the Cricket World Cup, and with England in limbo, now is the time to back Australia at 8/11 to win the third one-day international.
Flower’s decision to recall Matt Prior backfired when the wicket-keeper went for a duck at the top of the order, and with Pietersen, Bell and Morgan failing to perform, Collingwood is pushing hard for a recall.
However it seems Flower will stick with the same batting line-up and Andrew Strauss, who has been the most consistent performer, is the best bet at 7/2 to be England’s top runscorer in the third ODI.
It could be a match in which the two skippers take center stage and Michael Clarke enjoys playing at the Sydney Cricket Ground – he is 10th in the ground’s one-day run list – and is a big price at 5/1 to be Australia’s leading runscorer.
The injuries suffered by Nathan Hauritz and Shaun Tait will have affected Australia’s preparations for this game, but after Shaun Marsh’s century in the second ODI Clarke praised the strength in depth of the Aussie side and they should have no problem replacing Hauritz and Tait.
Australia are certainly in the ascendancy in this ODI series following their Ashes defeat, and after comfortable victories despite not being at their best in the opening two games, it’s hard to oppose Clarke’s side.
England need to find some momentum ahead of February’s World Cup in which they are 4/1 in the Cricket World Cup betting, but they need to sort their batting order out and it’s too early to back England to win.
