West Ham need to improve away form in order to save Grant

Avram Grant will need West Ham to quickly improve their dreadful away record in the coming games if he wishes to retain his job into the New Year.

West Ham are 4/9 in the Premier League betting odds to be relegated this season and currently find themselves languishing at the foot of the table, four points from safety.

A source has told the BBC that Grant has three games to turn things around or he will be shown the door and unfortunately for the Israeli boss, the first two are away from Upton Park.

The Hammers have failed to win any of their eight games on their travels and perhaps their biggest problem is that they have only managed to score four goals.

However, their three away draws have come in the games where they have found the target and this could be seen as a good omen as they prepare to travel firstly to Blackburn and then to Fulham on Boxing Day.

West Ham’s betting odds are 7/2 to win at Blackburn and they have avoided defeat in their last four visits to Ewood Park, while they have lost just one of their eight away games against Fulham since the inception of the Premier League.

The source told the BBC: “Dismissing Avram is not something the board wants to do. The club are aware that we were lucky to avoid relegation last season, and that Avram inherited a ‘Championship-rate’ squad.

“He’s also had a dreadful run of injuries, but we can’t get to the beginning of the window and not do something if things don’t improve.”

Blackburn are 4/5 to heap more pressure on West Ham and take the three points, with the draw priced at 5/2.

A £10 bet on West Ham beating Blackburn 2-1 could lead to a payout of £140. New Ladbrokes customers can sign up here for a free £10 bet.
