Spurs are more likely to win the Champions League than Arsenal

Harry Redknapp has vowed his Tottenham Hotspur side will continue their free-scoring form after his side progressed into the knock-out stages as Group A winners.

What that means for Spurs is that the 18/1 for them to win the Champions League is worth taking now with an easier draw scheduled for the last 16.

Lyon, Valenica, Copenhagen, AS Roma, Marseille and AC Milan are all possible candidates for Spurs in the knock-out stages, and AC Milan aside, Harry Redknapp’s side will be confident of bearing any of their possible opponents.

Their free-scoring football has seen Spurs become the joint top scorers in the competition alongside arch-rivals Arsenal, but Spurs fans have the bragging rights after finishing top of their group while Arsenal could only manage second place.

And Spurs fans could be right in believing they have a better chance of winning the Champions League than their north London rivals, even if the betting market doesn’t suggest as much.

Granted Arsenal are a superior side, but Arsene Wenger’s team will face Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid or Schalke in the next round and at 16/1 to win the Champions League, Arsenal don’t provide as much value as Spurs.

It may seem like a fairytale dream, but shock winners in the Champions League aren’t difficult to come by.

Porto and Monaco contested the 2003-04 final, an ageing AC Milan team shocked many when winning the 2006-07 final and Liverpool were surprise winners in the 2004-05 season after finishing fourth in the Premier League.

The mentality of scoring more than the opposition may come unstuck against teams like Real Madrid or Manchester United, but Spurs won’t meet either of those two until the latter stages.

Arsenal fans will hate this, but Spurs have the better chance of winning the Champions League.
