Sam Allardyce is sacked by Blackburn Rovers’ new owners
Published:Sam Allardyce has become the second Premier League manager in just over a week to be given the boot.
The shock announcement was made on the Blackburn Rovers website this afternoon in the wake of their 2-1 defeat against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday – despite the club lying safely in 13th spot with four wins in their last seven games.
The statement read: “The Venky’s Group, owners of Blackburn Rovers Football Club, has today confirmed the departure of manager Sam Allardyce and assistant manager Neil McDonald with immediate effect.
“First team coaching duties will be taken on by Steve Kean (currently 1st team coach) for the immediate future.
“We have taken this decision as part of our wider plans and ambitions for the club. We would like to put on record our thanks to Mr. Allardyce for his contribution to Blackburn Rovers Football Club.”
The Venky’s Group took over the ownership of Blackburn Rovers in October. The Indian company, run by Venkatesh and Balaji Rao, purcahased a 99.9% stake in the club for £23 million.
Allardyce’s sacking means he is now the second Premier League manager to lose his job this season after Chris Hughton was replaced as Newcastle United boss by Alan Pardew last week.
