Rami’s qualities could be useful to Liverpool’s fading title aspirations

Adil Rami is being targeted by Liverpool as the replacement for Jamie Carragher as the club attempt to move back into contention in the Premier League title race.

Liverpool’s betting odds have drifted out to 100/1 to win the Premier League after losing at Tottenham in their last game and they now have 12 points to make up on current leaders Manchester United.

However, they will have to do so largely without Jamie Carragher, who has been ruled out for three months after undergoing surgery on a dislocated shoulder.

Young prospect Danny Wilson is set to step in for the Europa League clash with Steaua Bucharest and at present he is the only obvious replacement should anything happen to Martin Skrtel or Sotirios Kyrgiakos.

Therefore, Roy Hodgson will be forced to sign another defender in the January transfer window and French defender Rami is considered to be the number one target.

Rami has impressed for Lille this season and as a result he has been handed his international debut by France.

It was his solid display against England recently that built up his reputation further and there is now a strong possibility he will be leaving France either in January or in the summer.

Rami is known for his physical strength, while the fact he is opposing in the air could prove a worthy asset in both penalty areas.

Furthermore, the 24-year-old should have no troubles settling into the hectic nature of the Premier League as he is comfortable with the ball at his feet and is recognised for his calmness in pressure situations.

With Carragher and Daniel Agger on the injured list, it is certain that Skrtel and Kyrgiakos will start at the heart of the Liverpool defence for their next game at Anfield against Aston Villa.

Liverpool have only lost one of their last 18 showdowns with Aston Villa and are 8/13 to take the vital three points this season that will maintain their slim title hopes.

A £10 bet on Liverpool beating Aston Villa 2-1 would potentially provide winnings of £70. New Ladbrokes customers can sign up here for a free £10 bet.
