Queens Park Rangers star convinced best is yet to come

Queens Park Rangers’ Tommy Smith is determined to get back to his best over the packed Christmas period.

The winger is on loan with the 5/6 title favourites from fellow Championship side Portsmouth and has recently cemented his place in the starting line-up, scoring three goals in five starts.

However, despite that very respectable start to his Hoops career, Smith – who has also played for Sunderland and Watford – believes things can only get better.

He said: “I don’t think I’m quite at my best yet, I feel I’m not 100 per cent match fit. I certainly feel fit, it’s just match fitness and awareness that I’m not there with just yet.

“But we’ve got plenty of games coming up over Christmas and, if I can keep my place in the team, I’m sure in a couple of weeks I’ll feel 100 per cent.”

Despite being top of the Championship, things haven’t been quite going to plan for QPR in recent weeks. They have won just three of their last ten games and slumped to their first league defeat against Watford on Friday night.

Neil Warnock’s men now face a tricky away day against Leeds United this weekend and are 8/5 to win against a Leeds side that is undefeated in eight games and flying high in fourth spot.
