Oxford and Northampton take advantage of cold snap

Both Oxford United and Northampton Town made strides up the League Two table after the weather wiped out 10 of the 12 fixtures this weekend.

Oxford’s move from 18th position to 12th shows just how tight the League Two table is and the U’s are now just five points away from a play-off place thanks to their win over relegation threatened Barnet.

Having just beaten one of the two teams in the relegation zone, Oxford travel to Lincoln City next to face a side that are at the root of League Two.

Should Oxford take the three points from that game, they should do so, then Chris Wilder’s side will find themselves pushing for a play-off spot.

But Northampton are the real winners of the weekend after their three points against Stockport propelled them from one place outside the relegation zone up to 18th, just one point behind Oxford.

The Cobblers had been struggling at the foot of the table but with 11 points from a possible 18 in their last six games, Ian Sampson has turned his team into the form side at the bottom of League Two.

Should the cold weather allow, Northampton travel to Stevenage Borough next Tuesday and Sampson’s side will be confident of another three points, the way they’re playing, don’t bet against them.

Port Vale still lead the way at the top of the table and are 5/2 to win League Two. New customers can sign up here for a free £10 bet.
