Klitschko set to fight Haye after pulling out of Chisora title defence
Published:David Haye has been made 11/10 to beat Wladimir Klitschko in the boxing betting odds and there is a strong chance that the pair will finally get into the ring next year, after the Ukrainian pulled out of his fight with Dereck Chisora.
Haye has long been talking about fighting one of the Klitschko brothers, with Wladimir always seeming like the most likely to take on the WBA heavyweight champion rather than his older sibling Vitali.
However, the showdown was expected to take place later in 2010 as Wladimir was set to defend his IBF and WBO heavyweight titles against Dereck Chisora this weekend in Germany.
But it could now take place much earlier next year after Wladimir pulled out of this fight citing a torn abdominal muscle and this is likely to keep him out of action for six weeks.
The news will be a big blow for Chisora as although a big underdog, it was a massive opportunity to make his name known on the heavyweight map.
However, fellow Brit Haye is set to profit from the situation as Klitschko has shown an immediate interest in trying to claim the one heavyweight belt that is not currently held by him or his brother.
Richard Schaefer, the chief executive of Golden Boy Promotions, has now been told by Klitschko’s American representative Shelley Finkel to begin negotiations with Haye’s camp.
He said: “I will begin talks with David and [his trainer and manager] Adam Booth as soon as possible to see what we can work out.
“Obviously the two fighters will put their three combined titles on the line in what will be the biggest fight of the year.”
Klitschko vs Haye betting odds have the Ukrainian as the 4/6 favourite, while the unlikely draw can be backed at 33/1.
