Khan vs Maidana Odds

Amir Khan will need to employ the right strategy and stick to the right game plan if he wants make a third successful defence of his WBA light welterweight title against Marcos Maidana.

Khan vs Maidana betting odds have the champion as the 4/11 favourite to pick up the win in Las Vegas and the deciding factor will be whether the 23-year-old can cope with the power of the challenger.

Maidana has collected 27 of his 29 career victories by knockout and Khan has run into trouble against power punchers before when being stopped by Breidis Prescott, while also being knocked down by Willie Limond and Michael Gomez.

However, since the Prescott defeat Khan has sparred with Manny Pacquiao and been trained by Freddie Roach, with one of the main focuses being a noted improvement in his defence.

Khan clearly has the advantage in terms of all-round boxing ability and he may be best served to recreate the same plan that saw him beat Paulie Malignaggi in May.

On that occasion Khan stayed behind his jab and doing so again should ensure that he controls the fight, while his speed advantage should ensure he impresses the judges to move ahead on their scorecards.

Khan and Roach have both hinted that a late stoppage in the Brit’s favour is their expected outcome and therefore the boxing betting odds of 9/2 that Khan triumphs between rounds nine and 12 might be worth taking.

There may also be some value in Khan stopping Maidana between rounds seven and 12 and this has betting odds of 3/1.

Furthermore, those believing that Khan’s precise punching will lead to a victory via the scorecards have some separate betting opportunities.

It is 11/4 that Khan wins by unanimous decision and 10/1 to win via a split decision.

A £10 bet on Khan retaining his belt by majority decision, where two judges score the fight in his favour and the other has it as a draw, could lead to a return of £500. New Ladbrokes customers can sign up here for a free £10 bet.
